Office Initatives
Board Level Representation
CSR is an important subject which is taken seriously by the company from Board level down. To this end, our Managing Director, Martin Parry, is on the board at Eventia and has been instrumental in driving our CSR policy forward.
Local Initiatives
From a local company aspect, a project group has been put together to recognise the challenges we face in minimising our office based carbon emissions, and to reduce these as best we can. Our main challenges over the past few months have been focused on recognising what changes we can make in the office to reduce our impact on the environment.
WorldEvents has been in discussions with a leading specialist company in the emissions area, The Carbon Consultancy, and are working with them to conduct a waste audit to:
- Monitor the waste to identify its quantity and type, and its environmental effects
- Look at opportunities to reduce, recycle or re-use the waste
- Set targets for reducing waste
We have already received a report from The Carbon Consultancy indicating our carbon footprint as an office, confirming we are one of the best low carbon emitting agencies in our sector. We will continue to work with the company in the future to significantly reduce our carbon emissions. If you would like to see the credentials of this company, please go to www.thecarbonconsultancy.co.uk
We have gathered information on our staff’s fuel emissions to calculate the carbon cost of this and to confirm how much impact this is having on our environment each year
Having reduced our emissions to a minimum, WorldEvents will purchase Carbon Units from the Carbon Consultancy to offset our Carbon Footprint. The Carbon Consultancy will use these funds to plant trees and further their education programme with primary school children.
Staff Education
We are educating our staff members to ensure that no energy is wasted by ensuring that all lights, desktop computers and electrical appliances are switched completely off when not in use. We are also currently looking into the possibility of replacing our existing lighting system with energy saving light bulbs, as well as light sensors for the toilets, to prevent the needless waste of electricity. We are monitoring the utility costs (water, electricity & gas) from the offices on an annual and quarterly basis to identify where and how savings can be made by utilising more energy efficient methods of working.
Office Processes
We now have numerous recycling bins located throughout the offices. There are four paper / cardboard bins located next to each of the major printers to encourage all waste printing paper is recycled. We also have an aluminium/tin and plastics bin in each of the office kitchens – used for any clean material that has the recycled symbol on – and we have contracted with a regulated waste management company to pick up our recycling on a weekly basis. We also use this company to recycle printer cartridges, batteries and used mobile telephones.
As well as recycling our own waste products, we are also moving towards having a fully recycled set of stationery products for use in the office. We are already using recycled headed paper and computer paper and are in the process of moving towards recycled envelopes, compliment slips and business cards.
